Kia is cutting EV6 prices by over $5,000

Kia’s electric SUV just got a bit more attractive. The base 2026 Kia EV6 is $5,000 cheaper than last year’s model, and even more on some trims.

After Hyundai confirmed the standard IONIQ 6 would not return for a 2026 model year, many believed the Kia EV6 was headed for the same fate. Despite the speculation, the 2026 Kia EV6 is finally here, and it now starts at under $40,000.

Kia announced on Monday that 2026 EV6 prices start at $37,900, $5,000 less than the outgoing model’s starting price of $42,900.

That’s for the base 2026 Kia EV6 Light SR RWD. Kia cut prices on the more expensive 2026 EV6 Wind and GT-Line trims by $5,500 each, bringing them to $44,800 and $48,700, respectively.

While it’s mostly a carryover model, the biggest updates include an added dual-voltage charging cable, now standard on all 2026 EV6 trims, and a DC fast-charger adapter for those who live in California and other ZEV states.

Powered by a 63 kWh battery, the cheapest EV6 Light offers up to 237 miles of range. Upgrading to the Long Range 84 kWh battery gets up to 319 miles of range in RWD variants, while AWD versions drop to 295 miles. The top-of-the-line EV GT-Line AWD drops a bit further, offering an electric driving range of 270 miles.

With the new, lower EV6 prices and the EV3 set to go on sale soon, Kia is making it affordable for those looking to go electric.

While the lower prices are welcomed, one model is missing. The EV6 GT, Kia’s 650-hp electric sports car, is also delayed indefinitely, a company spokesperson confirmed to Car and Driver in March. When, or if, the EV6 GT will arrive remains up in the air.

Kia delayed several new EVs indefinitely, including the much-anticipated EV4, Kia’s first electric sedan (that’s also sold as a hatchback), and the three-row performance SUV, the EV9 GT.

Those in the US, however, will finally be able to order the EV3 later this year. The EV3 is an “entry-level EV SUV that offers many of the advanced amenities of the EV9” in a smaller, more affordable package.

The 2027 EV3 will be available with a flagship GT variant, alongside the standard Light, Wind, and GT-Line models.

Although Kia’s electric vehicle sales are picking up in most other markets, the Korean automaker has struggled to sell the EV6 in the US after the $7,500 federal tax credit expired at the end of September.

Through the first three months of 2026, Kia sold just over 2,000 EV6 models in the US, 46% fewer than in the same period last year.

As a more affordable, entry-level SUV, the EV3 is expected to attract a new market of buyers as an alternative to the Chevy Bolt EV and Nissan LEAF.
