Most modern cameras will shoot video to one degree or another, but these are the ones we’d look at if you plan to shoot some video alongside your photos. We’ve chosen cameras that can take great photos and make it easy to get great looking video, rather than being the ones you’d choose as a committed videographer.

Our pick: Sony a7 IV

The standard of video offered by modern cameras continues to climb, and detailed 4K footage, often with 10-bit quality for Log shooting or HDR capture is no longer confined to specialist video cameras. The Sony a7 IV becomes our choice in this category because it offers the most dependable autofocus, on top of its video capabilities. As a photographer’s tool it’s on a par with the current crop of excellent mid-level full-frame cameras, but it’s the all-round ability in terms of battery life, autofocus, stills and video detail levels, that see us pick it out.

If your budget doesn’t stretch to the Sony and the lenses you need, we still think highly of Fujifilm’s X-T4, which delivers great results in both stills and video, but whose APS-C sensor allows it to deliver a smaller, more affordable alternative.

We considered the cameras below when picking our winner, representing a range of prices and capabilities. And even though we think the Sony a7 IV is the best choice overall, the cameras on our short list are also worth considering.
