Until Dawn 2 Revealed for PS5 at PlayStation State of Play

First-party PlayStation developer Firesprite came to the State of Play June 2026 showcase to reveal Until Dawn 2 with plans to launch for PS5 in 2027.

First footage of what already looks to be a star-studded follow-up revealed quite the change of pace from Supermassive Games’ winter-set original. This time around, it looks like players can expect to head to a more tropical setting for a story that follows a group of ghost hunters.

“Our cast this time is a crew of ghost hunters, the faces behind the wildly popular paranormal channel, Dead True.. Only, well… they’ve never actually seen anything supernatural,” a story description for Until Dawn 2 shared on the PlayStation.blog said. “The scares they are known for are, let’s say, a little staged. But all that changes when for the very first time, they come face-to-face with real horrors and must start living up to their reputation to survive until dawn.”

Elsewhere in its PlayStation.blog post, Sony says Until Dawn features a modern horror experience filled with “intrigue, emotion, twists, and the kind of choices that will keep you up at night.” It’s the kind of promise that is to be expected after the original game offered similar stakes more than 10 years ago, and with the end of today’s trailer spelling out that “everyone can live” and “everyone can die,” there is probably more than a few ways to kill off that new cast.

It’s been 11 years since the original Until Dawn launched for PS4 and just a few months since its remake came to PS5. After last year’s live-action movie brought the franchise to another new setting, it looks like the PlayStation team has been slowly prepping fans for today’s reveal.

Until Dawn 2’s connections to the universe of stories it’s joining remain to be seen, but we do know that the series’ Butterfly Effect mechanic will be making a comeback. There’s also the trailer’s tease that the enigmatic Dr. Hill is back, too, with Peter Stormare confirmed to reprise his role.

“Like many of you, a bunch of us on the team are massive fans of the original Until Dawn, so getting to build the sequel has been a dream come true,” a message from the Firesprite team said. “Part of our mission from day one has been honoring that core DNA: character drama, tough choices, and those unforgettable horror moments that made the first game so special.”

The studio told fans eager to learn more about Until Dawn 2 to expect more information about its story, cast, and gameplay in the coming months. Here’s everything announced at State of Play June 2026 if you need a catch-up on everything PlayStation revealed.
