Google may be working on a Pixel Glow visual feedback feature for its upcoming Pixel 11 series. It could debut as the most unexpected feature Google had added to its phones for a while now. While it may not entirely be new, it is still a feature which Google could employ in its flagships.
As per Android Authority who carried out a teardown of the latest Android 17 Beta 4 build, it has found instances of a feature called Pixel Glow in the code that will use “subtle light and color” on the back of the phone to notify the user of “important activity.” While a lot of these terms remain unexplained, what seems to be the only possibility is the addition of hardware lights on the rear of the phones for visual feedback.
We have seen Nothing use such lights at the back of their devices but Google’s implementation will be different. As described by Google in a page for Pixel Glow which the publication dug out, the feature allows you to “Stay in the moment without losing touch. [Pixel Glow] uses subtle light and color on the back of your device to inform you of important activity when it’s face down.”

Moreover, an important note in the page says that if you have flash notifications enabled, you will not see Pixel Glow lights for incoming calls which does mean that the lights will act as notification indicators when the phone is facing down.
Some more strings of code suggest that Gemini will also play a role in the functioning of Pixel Glow. There could be a visual feedback on the back of the device when you enable Gemini’s voice recognition. The device may employ RGB LEDs to illuminate the same colours of the Google logo or the glow you see when you activate Gemini.
Now, Pixel 11 series renders have all leaked without any trace of such hardware lights but we do see an all black camera bar in all the phones which could mean that Pixel Glow lights may be hiding somewhere in the camera bar. However, these are all possibilities and we’ll have to wait for Google’s official reveal. In any case, this could be a big surprise for the Pixel 11 series and also one of the most notable changes Google will be making in its flagships in the last couple of years.
