MediaTek Dimensity 9600M Processor Announced: Everything to Know

MediaTek debuted its new flagship Dimensity 9600 Pro Chipset a couple of days ago and the MediaTek Dimensity 9600M has now also been announced. The new chipset comes with an “All Big Core design” that includes an octa-core CPU composed of Arm C1-Ultra, C1-Premium, and C1-Pro processors.

MediaTek Dimensity 9600M: Specifications

The octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 9600M Processor combines Arm C1-Ultra, C1-Premium and C1-Pro cores, along with large on-chip caches designed to improve performance and power efficiency.

The CPU setup includes one Arm C1-Ultra core with 2MB of L2 cache, three C1-Premium cores with 1MB L2 cache each, and four C1-Pro cores with 512KB L2 cache each. The chipset also features 16MB of L3 cache and 10MB of system-level cache. MediaTek says its Armv9.3 support with SME2 instructions is designed to improve AI workloads and machine learning efficiency.

Storage performance gets a boost from four-lane UFS 4.1 support, which can accelerate sequential data transfers and reduce the time needed to load AI models. The chip supports LPDDR5X memory at up to 10,667Mbps.

MediaTek’s Dimensity Scheduling Engine 3.0 is designed to maintain consistent system responsiveness, with the company highlighting faster App launches, reduced stutter and sustained frame rates. The chipset also combines its NPU 990 with a separate power-efficient NPU featuring a Compute-in-Memory architecture for always-on AI tasks.

On the AI side, the MediaTek Dimensity 9600M supports technologies including Gemini Nano 4 and Qwen 3.5 Omni 4B. It can handle 4K-resolution text-to-image generation and is designed to enable more personalised and proactive AI features. The chipset also includes a camera agent that can offer photography suggestions based on the scene and shooting conditions.

Then for gaming, the Dimensity 9600M uses MediaTek’s Neural Graphics Architecture alongside the Arm Mali-G1 Ultra MC12 GPU, dynamic data caching, intelligent performance balancing and HyperEngine gaming technologies. MediaTek claims the platform can deliver gaming performance of up to 185 FPS, while ray-traced scenes can run at up to 120 FPS. Its MediaTek MRFC 3.0 technology can also convert 60 FPS game content to 120 FPS output to make gameplay appear smoother.

For photography, the chipset supports camera Sensors of up to 320MP and includes AI-based imaging features such as AI Super Zoom, composition assistance and anti-shake with horizon correction. It supports up to 8K video capture at 60 FPS, along with 4K recording at 120 FPS with electronic image stabilisation and a 4K 60 FPS cinematic mode.

The Dimensity 9600M also comes with a 3GPP Release 17 5G modem featuring an in-modem AI engine for real-time network optimisation. It supports sub-6GHz 5G with 5CC carrier aggregation and download speeds of up to 7.4Gbps. MediaTek’s AI Network Suite 3.0 is claimed to reduce Latency by up to 30% in crowded environments, while 5G UltraSave 2.0 can reduce power consumption by up to 10% through AI-based traffic prediction.

Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7 with triple-band, triple-concurrency support and speeds of up to 7.3Gbps. Bluetooth 6.0 is also supported, with a dual Bluetooth engine and speeds of up to 12Mbps. The chipset further uses AI-based signal analysis for faster and more accurate GNSS positioning, while improved Bluetooth reception is designed to reduce latency and improve call, conferencing and gaming-chat quality.

The Dimensity 9600M supports displays with resolutions up to WQHD+ and refresh rates of up to 180Hz. It also includes tri-port MIPI support for tri-fold displays.

On the video side, the chipset supports 8K 60 FPS 10-bit decoding for HEVC, AVC, VP9 and AV1 formats. It supports 8K 30 FPS 10-bit encoding, as well as 8K 60 FPS 8-bit HEVC encoding.

Overall, going by the specifications, the chip seems to be a rebranded Dimensity 9500 that was last year’s flagship chipset from the chipmaker.

The first phones powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9600M are expected to debut soon. Vivo and OPPO are rumoured to be the first brands to use the chip in their upcoming Vivo X500 and OPPO Find X10, respectively.
