Gemini Intelligence Support Is Limited to Surprisingly Few Phones

Google announced Gemini Intelligence last week as one of its most advanced AI features to ever exist on Android. New evidence suggests that Gemini Intelligence support is limited to a handful of phones and even more notable devices like the Z Fold 7 or even the Galaxy S25 may be unsupported.

Gemini Intelligence support won’t be present on any Android device, but only on “Android devices with the most advanced capabilities and spec requirements,” as per Google. Here’s what Google states on its Android website in a footnote regarding the requirements to run Gemini Intelligence:

  • Nano models on device AI (integrate AI Core + Nano v3 or greater)
  • Media performance (latest): spatial audio, low light, hdr; gaming: annual GGI + driver updates
  • 12GB+ RAM
  • Qualified SoC (flagship chip)
  • Quality in Field: Meet SLOs (e.g., crash rate) in 2026. Further enforced in 2027
  • Quality at Launch: pass test suite on A17+
  • OS: 5 upgrades, AVF, pKVM
  • Security: 6 yrs, quarterly

The notable requirement here is the version of nano model (Gemini Nano v3 or above) support for AI Core, and even a flagship chipset. These requirements alone rule out the possibility of Gemini Intelligence support on mid-range, or even premium mid-range phones. Moreover, it seems like Pixel 9 series, Galaxy S25 series, and even the Z Fold 7 which is just 10 months old, won’t support Gemini Intelligence, as these devices have Gemini Nano v2.

The full list of devices which support Nano v2 and v3, as per a Google developer support page, are as follows:

nano-v2 Google: Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold

Google has already confirmed that Gemini Intelligence support is coming to Pixel 10 series and Galaxy S26 series later this summer but it seems most of the flagships that are barely a year old are unsupported. This is actually a disappointment if true, as recent flagships should at least get the latest software-based features.

Furthermore, some leaks suggest that Pixel 11 may get 8GB RAM this year, and as per Google’s requirements, Gemini Intelligence requires at least 12GB RAM. Is it possible that even Google’s latest Pixel 11 may not support the feature? We’ll know more once Google officially issues a clarification regarding the matter.
