E-quipment highlight: Milwaukee brings big electric power to any job site

Every job site needs to power to do work. Cordless hand tool brand Milwaukee knows that better than most, which is why the Big Red Truck is about to roll out with not one but two new products ready to bring big electric power to any job site.

It’s a common enough scenario to’ve become a trope over on my other podcast: just because you work for the power company, that don’t mean you have power.

Milwaukee gets it, and has earned a lot of fans over the years through its consistent efforts to offer new, innovative products to construction crews that make their lives easier. That’s why I think newly announced power products like the new Milwaukee Roll-On power supply offering 7200/3600W of power from a 6.0 kWh battery and the new M18 Four-Bay Super Charger shown, below, are going to receive a very warm welcome from the growing flock of Milwaukee faithful when the tools arrive later this summer.

Big red power

Packing a REDLITHIUM™ branded 6.0kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the newest Milwaukee Roll-On offers hours of on-site charging along with up to 7200 watts of starting power. That’s more than enough to displace a 4000W gas generator and the noise, fumes, and fuel costs that come along with those – making the Roll-On an ideal solution for indoor or urban quiet hour use.

The Roll-On also allows crews to get to work faster than gas, as it’s ready to go as soon as it’s pulled off the truck with a pair of 20A GFCI duplex outlets with circuit breakers, USB-C and USB-A to provide power for multiple 20A corded power tools, smartphones, laptops, and other “sensitive electronics” (Milwaukee’s words).

Getting around a gravely or muddy job site is also made easy, thanks to the Roll-On’s 9.5″ all-terrain wheels, and the big 6.0 kWh battery can be charged overnight on a standard 120V outlet. The Roll-On is allegedly compatible with all of Milwaukee’s PACKOUT™ Components, too, which is sure to keep Milwaukee loyalists happy.

As cool as the big 6.0 kWh Roll-On is, though, it might be overkill if your workday doesn’t take you off grid for extended periods. Milwaukee’s got a new power product for them, too.

Four on the floor

Sharp-eyed readers will notice that, despite its wide selection of ports and massive starting power, one thing the 6.0 kWh Roll-On is missing is battery ports. You’ll need to plug those into the Roll-On or any other available power outlet – but if you find one, Milwaukee’s new Four Bay Simultaneous Super Charger promises to energize up to four M12 or M18 Milwaukee batteries up to ten (10) times (x) faster than the company’s conventional charge ports. (!)

As in the world of EVs, the secret to juicing up batteries quickly is keeping them cool. To that end, Milwaukee’s COOL-CYCLE™ technology uses liquid cooling to keep battery temps manageable, while the brand’s CHARGE ADAPT™ Adaptive Charge Distribution technology monitors SOC and distributes power between bays to take advantage of variable charging curves and maximize job site productivity.

The company says its new Simultaneous Super Charger can charge for up to four of its M18 or M12 REDLITHIUM FORGE™ HD12.0 Batteries from 0 to 100% in just 90 minutes.
