The phone gimbal comes with a new detachable Osmo FrameTap remote. The accessory allows users to control the gimbal remotely while also previewing the camera feed through its built-in display. DJI says this can make rear-camera selfies and remote-controlled shots easier to frame more accurately. The remote also includes a joystick for controlling pan, tilt, and zoom functions.

The FrameTap can magnetically attach to the gimbal handle and also works with the company’s Multifunctional Module 2. Through this module, users can adjust the built-in fill light with eight levels of brightness and colour temperature control.

DJI has also upgraded its subject tracking technology with ActiveTrack 8.0. The updated system is designed to better maintain focus on subjects in crowded scenes or during rapid movement changes. The company says the feature works particularly well in situations such as concerts, sporting events, or fast-moving action sequences.

When paired with the Multifunctional Module 2, the Osmo Mobile 8P can track not just people and pets, but also objects like vehicles and landmarks. iPhone users also get Apple DockKit support, allowing subject tracking directly through the native iOS camera App without needing the DJI Mimo app.

The Osmo Mobile 8P uses DJI’s eighth-generation 3-axis stabilisation system for smoother handheld footage. The gimbal weighs around 386g and includes a built-in tripod along with a 215mm extension rod. DJI says the redesigned tripod opens wider for better balance and stability on uneven surfaces.

Battery life is rated at up to 10 hours, and the built-in USB Type-C port can also charge a connected smartphone during use.

DJI has also included several cinematic shooting modes inside the DJI Mimo app. DynamicZoom adds dramatic zoom effects similar to those seen in films, while Slow Shutter is designed for light trails and low-light photography. Action Shot improves tracking responsiveness for fast-moving subjects, and Widescreen mode records directly in a 2.35:1 cinematic aspect ratio.

The gimbal additionally supports 360-degree Infinite Spin for continuous horizontal rotation while keeping subjects locked in frame. Users can also tilt the pan axis forward for low-angle shots designed to mimic perspectives closer to ground level.
