Canon EOS R3 will shoot 30 fps Raw bursts, with oversampled 4K and 8-stop IS

Canon has released additional details about its high-end EOS R3 mirrorless camera, which we expect will be shipping by the end of the year.

The Stacked CMOS sensor, which will have very fast readout, can shoot Raw bursts at 30 fps. When used with compatible RF lenses, its in-body stabilization can reduce shake by up to eight stops. Autofocus has been enhanced over current EOS R models, with improved face/eye/head and animal detection, plus new car and motorcycle tracking capabilities. Canon says that the R3 will be able to focus at light levels as low as -7EV.

The R3 will be able to capture oversampled 4K, with support for Canon Log3 and Raw internal recording.

We got our first look at the back of the camera, where you’ll see a fully articulating touchscreen LCD (3.2″ based on the image Canon has provided), and both Smart and Multi controllers. The R3 has both wired and wireless LAN support, dual card slots (CFexpress and SD) and a magnesium alloy body (of course). Its hot shoe provides power and communication for future products. The R3 will be able to use a Speedlite with the electronic shutter, a first for one of Canon’s cameras.

The R3 uses the familiar LP-E19 battery, which is also used by the EOS-1D X III, and should deliver superior stamina to previous Canon mirrorless models.

That’s all for now. Be sure to check out the slideshow linked below to find out everything we know about the R3.
