Week 34 in review: Redmi 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro leaks aplenty, Android 10 official

Realme unveiled the 5 and Realme 5 Pro this week. The Realme 5 is the bigger device at 6.5-inches and packs a Snapdragon 665, a mammoth 5,000mAh battery and a quad camera. It’s main sensor is a 12MP f/1.8. The Realme 5 Pro packs a smaller 6.3-inch screen, a Snapdragon 712 and a quad camera with a 48MP main sensor.

Samsung meanwhile announced the refreshed versions of its Aseries best sellers – the Galaxy A50s and Galaxy A30s. Those add extra cameras and improve the design of the rear panel.

This week also brought about a bunch of Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro leaks and teasers – we got to know much of their specs and their design. Xiaomi officially announced that the Redmi Note 8 family is arriving on August 29 and that should include the Redmi Note 8, the Redmi Note 8 Pro and likely the Redmi 8.

We also learned the battery capacities of the upcoming Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro. The duo promises to outdo Samsung’s Galaxy Note10 series with 4,200 and 4,500mAh batteries, respectively.

A rumor suggested that Motorola’s foldable Razr smartphone will arrive in Europe in December, priced at €1,500, which would put it as a cheaper alternative to the Galaxy Fold and Mate X.

The vivo NEX 3 surfaced in a live image, showing its extremely curved screen edges. The marketing term is waterfall screen. We don’t know much about the vivo NEX 3 at this point but since the official teaser campaign is under way we expect to learn more about it in the following weeks.

The Xiaomi Mi A3 went on sale in India this Friday, August 23. It comes in two memory versions – 4GB/64GB priced at INR12,999 ($180/€165) and 6GB/128GB priced at INR15,999 ($225/€200).

The final bit of big news comes from Google. The dessert naming scheme is officially done and Android Q will be called Android 10. In related news, Google’s redesigned Play Store is now official for everyone with a new bottom-placed navigation panel and a predominantly white background.

That’s it folks, catch you next week!

It will be joined by the vanilla Note 8.

Samsung is updating its Galaxy A best-sellers.

The upcoming device was outed in what seems to be a TV commercial.

The vanilla variant has a bigger screen and battery, but the Pro comes with better specs.

The alleged batteries for the two upcoming models have been photographed somewhere in China.

The images appeared briefly in a tweet before it was deleted.

The Redmi 8 and Redmi Note 8 are rumored to make their debuts in September.

The Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro will be announced next week in China.

That’s cheaper than Samsung’s and Huawei’s first foldables, but still a lot to ask.

The phone appears in a promo video, saying the phone is opening the world in a whole new way with its camera.

The bezels look bigger than competing flagships but it could be a software trick or a protective case.

Samsung is also surprisingly bundling the Snapchat app with the new firmware.

It will be unveiled on August 29 with the Note 8 and a 70″ Smart TV.

Also introduces a new wordmark and logo for the Android brand.

NFC rarely shows up on Redmi phones, it’s usually featured only on flagship Mi phones.

We’ll likely see QD-OLED debut on Samsung’s high-end TV lineup before making its debut on smartphones.

It comes with the Snapdragon 665 SoC, triple camera setup, and a Super AMOLED display.

Features a new bottom navigation bar and cleaner design.
