Venus Optics announces $699 Laowa 7.5mm T2.9 Zero-D Cine lens, the world’s widest Super35 rectilinear prime lens

Venus Optics has announced the release of the world’s widest Super35 rectilinear prime lens, the Laowa 7.5mm T2.9 Zero-D Cine.

This lens, which is fully manual, has a roughly 12mm full-frame equivalent focal length and offers a 123-degree angle of view when captured with a Super35 frame. It’s constructed of 16 elements in 10 groups, including two extra-low dispersion (ED) elements and two aspherical elements.

It features a seven-blade aperture diaphragm, has a minimum focusing distance of 25cm (9.8”) and uses a 77mm front filter thread with an T-stop range of T2.9 through T22. The lens measures 80mm (3.1”) in diameter, 80mm (3.2”) long and weighs around 610g (22oz), with a slight variation between the different lens mount options. For both its aperture and focus ring, the lens uses standard 0.8 mod gears for follow focus systems.

Below are a few videos made with footage captured through the lens:

The Laowa 7.5mm T2.9 Zero-D Cine lens is available for Canon RF, Fujifilm X, Nikon Z and Sony E mount camera systems. As its Super35 name suggests, it’s designed to be shot in cropped mode on full-frame camera systems. The lens is currently available to purchase for $699 on Venus Optics’ Laowa website.
