Toyota reveals the Highlander EV as its first three-row electric SUV

It’s finally official. Toyota confirmed the 2027 Highlander will be its first three-row electric SUV after revealing new details about the upcoming EV on Monday.

The 2027 Toyota Highlander will be a three-row EV SUV

It’s been nearly three years since Toyota first revealed plans to introduce an all-electric three-row SUV. On Monday, the Japanese automaker finally made it official.

The 2027 Highlander will be offered as an EV for the first time. Toyota previewed the electric SUV in a video, revealing the Highlander name and BEV badge below it, confirming it will be a battery-electric vehicle.

We had a good feeling the Highlander was going electric after Toyota revealed the interior last week. Although it was hard to see in the image Toyota released, if you lighten it slightly, you could clearly see three rows of seating.

Beyond the Highlander nameplate and BEV badge, the video also confirmed it will be available with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) powertrain.

Toyota said in a statement, “Meet the all-new 2027 Highlander. Featuring sleek, modern lines, an electric powertrain, and a spacious three-row cabin with comfort for the whole crew.”

The Highlander EV will join the updated 2026 bZ, C-HR, and bZ Woodland in Toyota’s growing US electric vehicle lineup.

After revamping the bZ, formerly called the bZ4X, Toyota’s first electric SUV has seen more demand. Last month, it was among the best-selling EVs in the US, outselling the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Ford Mustang Mach-E.

While we have yet to learn any specifics, the current Highlander is nearly 195″ long. The Grand Highlander (pictured below on the right) is even bigger at over 200″ in length. To put that into perspective, the 2026 bZ Woodland, Toyota’s largest EV currently, is only 190″ long.

With the Highlander joining as a three-row option, Toyota will offer an electric SUV in nearly every segment with the smaller C-HR crossover, the mid-size bZ, and the more rugged bZ Woodland.

Toyota will reveal more details about the 2027 Highlander EV tomorrow, February 10, 2026, during its official debut. Check back for a full breakdown of battery specs, driving range, and more.

With the new electric SUVs on their way to dealerships, Toyota is offering big discounts to move inventory. Check the links below to see what 2026 Toyota bZ and C-HR models are available in your area.
