The Galaxy Z Fold 2 will be available on September 18th for $2,000

When Samsung teased its third foldable phone at Unpacked earlier this month, it didn’t reveal much beyond quick specs like screen and battery sizes, explaining that more details were coming. Today, the company is sharing all the information about the Galaxy Z Fold 2, which will be available on September 18th starting at $1,999. Pre-orders begin today.

We already knew the Z Fold 2 has a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED panel on the outside with a punch-hole cutout for the 10-megapixel camera, which is a great improvement over the original Fold’s 4.6-inch version. We also learned that the larger 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED supports 120Hz refresh rates at 1080p, though it can run up to 2,208 x 1,768. There’s also a cutout here for another 10-mp selfie camera, in addition to the triple 12-mp setup on the exterior. Samsung explained to press during a briefing that this folding screen will not support the S Pen, so fans of the stylus won’t be able to use it here.

Like the Galaxy Z Flip, the Fold 2 will use what Samsung calls Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) for a screen that feels more solid and less like plastic. To reduce the chances of dust getting in the machinery and breaking the device like what happened with the original Fold, Samsung also brought back the “Hideaway Hinge” that it introduced in the Z Flip, allowing the foldable to be opened in various angles and hold its position in something the company calls Flex Mode.
