Apple announced its new Siri AI a couple of days back with contextual awareness, on-screen app access, and much more, but with a limitation, where you’ll have to get past a waitlist. While the company followed a similar approach for the Apple Intelligence features when they were first announced in 2024, it seems like the Siri AI waitlist is taking a little longer to get past in comparison.
Apple’s Siri AI is one of the biggest upgrades ever made to the digital assistant, bringing it in line with the competition. It is currently only available in to those who install the iOS 27, iPadOS 27, or macOS 27 developer beta versions. However, to get access, you have to join a waitlist and then wait for an approval from Apple’s servers, post which you will get access to Siri AI.
Aside from that, Apple notes that it will be available only for those who set their iPhone language to English US for now, as Siri AI supports only English for now. If you have that set as your default language for the iPhone and Siri, and you are in the waitlist, you have no option but to wait for Apple to enable it for your iPhone. To set your iPhone’s language, go to Settings > General > Language & Region > Under ‘Preferred Languages,’ make “English (US)” as your primary language.
In fact, one of our own iPhone 16 units is still on the Siri AI waitlist despite being 48 hours since we joined it. Some users on X suggest that one can only get access to Siri AI once the indexing process completes but that remains untrue, as many users claim that they have access to the latest Siri even though the indexing is in process.
Tired of waiting on the Siri AI waitlist, so I changed my language.
Now I have the old Siri orb instead 🙂 pic.twitter.com/40QMzU4XaL

I am generally curious as to how the Siri waitlist is being handled because I’ve been on it since launch with no luck. pic.twitter.com/NvV56qQIPq

The only reason I installed the iOS27 beta on day 1 was for the new Siri. Well, jokes on me, I’m still on the waitlist after nearly 30 hours 🙄 pic.twitter.com/Dw1Pvcx77i

At this point, the waiting is more frustrating than exciting.@Apple, please let me in 😭 pic.twitter.com/ke8rTSRS7I

For those unaware, iOS indexing is the background process where your iPhone catalogs data (like messages, photos, and apps) after a major software update. It creates a searchable database so you can find files, contacts, or app content instantly. This usually happens automatically when your phone is plugged into power and locked. Apple notes that indexing will go faster if your phone is on charging.
Many users are frustrated due to the long waiting period to get access to Siri AI. While the Siri AI waitlist may seem like an inconvenience, it allows Apple to scale at a pace that’s feasible for their servers. Too many user requests could overload the servers and result in an inconsistent and subpar experience by Apple’s standards.
Some users suggest that changing language of the device, restarting the iPhone a few times, changing the device’s region, or executing a terminal command through a MacBook could speed up the process and could give you access to the Siri AI but most of these haven’t worked for us. This leads us to believe that it has to be handled by Apple’s servers ultimately.
