Sony Xperia 10 III is now sold without a charger in the box in some markets

The latest company to remove the charger from its smartphone boxes is Sony. However, it seems that the move, at least for now, is limited to the Xperia 10 III.

Sony’s German arm has let us know that going forward, in some retail channels the Xperia 10 III will be offered without a charger, for a recommended sales price that will be reduced by €10. In other channels, the phone will still arrive with a charger, though.

It’s nice of Sony to actually reduce the price accordingly, unlike other companies doing the same thing, that’s for sure. The reason for the move is vague but has to do with ensuring “the uninterrupted supply” of the Xperia 10 III. Normally here we’d blame the chip crisis – but we haven’t heard of it affecting chargers, at least so far.

It will be interesting to see if this starts a trend in Sony’s smartphone arm. First of all, whether it spreads to other countries aside from Germany, and then to other models too perhaps. We’ll keep you posted.
