Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Series Could End with the Galaxy Z Flip 8

Samsung’s new foldable lineup is right around the corner and that includes a new flip phone per rumours, likely to be dubbed Galaxy Z Flip 8. However, it seems like it may be the last of its kind from Samsung, as the company could be planning to discontinue the Galaxy Z Flip series post the Flip 8.

Reputable tipster Ice Universe says that “The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 is likely to be Samsung’s last small folding product.” The Galaxy Z Flip series from Samsung has shown considerable progress over the past few years where the company has refreshed the device every year with an improved hinge, a superior chip, and also a redesign with a new hinge and cover display.

These meaningful changes have created a market for the Flip phones by Samsung but it seems like the company doesn’t think it’s quite substantial compared to the book-style foldables. Those foldables dominate the market due to how versatile they can get and the productivity factor that is much higher than a Flip foldable.

The Galaxy Z Flip series was never meant for productivity but possesses a design-first form factor that focuses on looks and portability. With the Flip series gone, Samsung may be planning to shift focus towards the new wide form factor it is introducing this year, with the completely redesigned Galaxy Z Fold 8.

This form factor stands in line with what Apple is also reportedly working on for its first foldable that could be called iPhone Ultra. The wider form factor is said to be smaller than the brand’s regular folding phone which will in some way serve the Flip series audience who prefer a more compact folding phone.

Aside from these reasons, you would notice most other brands have also given up on Flip folding phones such as OPPO, Vivo, Xiaomi and more. OPPO and Vivo haven’t launched a flip phone since 2023 and Xiaomi hasn’t either this year so far, while its MIX Flip 2 came in 2025 and remained exclusive to China. Motorola is still making the Razr flip phones but then they also introduced their first book-style foldable this year.

This could mean that there’s not a substantial market for flip phones and it may not be feasible for the brands anymore to sell these, especially due to the rising memory costs, which could be why Samsung may also be getting ready to bid goodbye to the Galaxy Z Flip series.
