Samsung Galaxy M12 renders show an A42-like design

Samsung is working on an entry-level Android with a massive 7,000 mAh battery. It will likely be named “Galaxy M12”, though F12/F12s is also a possibility. Anyway, we saw live photos of an unfinished back panel earlier this month, now @OnLeaks has filled in the blanks with CAD-based 3D renders of the phone.

The design is very similar to the recently announced Galaxy A42 5G. The screen will be a flat 6.5” panel, an LCD this time – notice the side-mounted fingerprint reader (also consider M12’s price class). The resolution will be 720p+ at best as even the A42 5G has a 720 x 1,600 px OLED display (with an in-display reader).

The phone’s overall dimensions are similar too – the M12 will measure 163.9 x 75.9 x 8.9 mm, with the thickness going up to 10 mm when you include the camera bump. That’s slightly thinner than the M51, Samsung’s first 7,000 mAh phone.

The back of the Galaxy M12 has the same floor plan as the A42 with a square camera bump housing up to four modules (could be three + some auxiliary sensor). The LED flash goes in a separate hole below the bump. This back will be made out of plastic.

Something the live photos of the back panel didn’t show is the two-texture back – the top three quarters have diagonal stripes while the bottom has a simple glossy finish. The A42 has four “bands” of different textures, so this seems to be a design trend for Samsung’s 2021 phones (outside of the S-series, anyway).

It looks like the 3.5mm headphone jack will live on into the next decade and the data/charging port is USB-C. Expect to see the Galaxy M12 unveiled very early next year – the M10 came in January, the M11 in June of this year.
