New action game Contenders: Arena launches demo for Steam Next Fest

Estonian studio Gamecan today revealed its new game, Contenders: Arena, a 3v3 third-person arena shooter in which players control robots competing in a game show. Gamecan is offering to let players test their skills piloting the robots, or Gladiators, in an upcoming demo available during Steam Next Fest, which begins on February 5.

In Contenders: Arena, players can pick between several Gladiators: Defender, Striker and Runner, each which their own abilities and advantages in the arena. Players can customize their Gladiators into a specific build that suits them. The game features several different gameplay modes, with more to be added in the future. The team is also building out the game’s narrative and its connections to a larger “Contenders Universe.”

Gamecan CEO Marten Palu said in a statement, “Our seasoned team at Gamecan brings extensive industry experience from around the world and a passionate and agile focus to continue to work with the player community at every step to launch and beyond. We are thrilled to welcome players on this journey as we kick off our first look into the Contenders Universe next month.”

The studio plans to release Contenders: Arena sometime this year. Steam Next Fest runs from February 5-12, and the team plans to collect feedback from those who play the demo.
