Leica’s FOTOS App is Now 100% Free

When Leica launched version 2.0 of its FOTOS universal smartphone app last year, it became a freemium app that had optional Pro features you could subscribe to for $70 a year. But Leica has now quietly made FOTOS 100% free.

FOTOS is the official Leica companion app for Leica cameras, allowing photographers to view photos, transfer images, control cameras remotely, adjust settings, post-process, and share.

But for a subscription of $70 a year, photographers could upgrade to the Pro version for things like iPad compatibility, Lightroom integration, RAW file transfers, and video mode.

Leica Rumors reports that when Leica updated FOTOS to version 2.2.0 back in mid-October, the company quietly did away with the Pro subscription and has made all FOTOS features available in the basic free app. The news was shared in the app’s Version History (with reminders over the next two version updates in case users didn’t see it):

If you have a Leica camera that’s compatible with FOTOS, you can download the free app for Android, iPhone, and iPad.
