Kuo: iPhone 13 series with smaller notch, 13 Pro gets 120Hz screen, foldable in 2023

Renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has a another bit of information regarding Apple’s iPhone lineup going forward.

Starting off with the iPhone 13 series that will premiere this Fall – there will be four models with the same-sized screens as the current lineup, all will have a smaller notch and a Lightning port. Kuo notes that Apple wants to move to a portless iPhone with a MagSafe connector, but that technology isn’t mature enough yet. We could see the first portless iPhone in 2022 or in 2023 at the latest.

All iPhone 13 models will have a new ulrawide camera – 6p f/1.8 lens and autofocus (currently it’s a 5p f/2.4 fixed-focus). The iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max will have LiDAR scanners and 120Hz-capable LTPO displays. Qualcomm’s 5nm X60M 5G modem will be embedded into the 13 series.

Apple will increase the battery capacities on all iPhone 13 models, thanks to space-saving innovation like embedding the SIM slot into the mainboard. All iPhone 13 models will become a bit heavier due to battery capacity increase.

Kuo: iPhone 13 with smaller notch, 13 Pro with 120Hz screen, foldable in 2023

Onto future plans. Apple’s first foldable iPhone will have a screen between 7.5-inch and 8-inch and will arrive in 2023.

Apple will reportedly scrap the Face ID notch for a punch-hole selfie camera in 2022. An iPhone with an under-display Touch ID and a periscope zoom camera could arrive in 2022, but is likelier to come in 2023.

Finally Kuo mentions that Apple could replace the iPhone 11 with a sub-$600 iPhone in the first half of 2023. It will bring Face ID, 5G and a similarly-sized 6-inch screen.
