Buying a smartphone in 2026 is no longer about solely getting a good Processor or a big battery. People now look at something much bigger, which is long-term reliability. And that’s where the recently announced HMD Vibe 2 5G starts raising a few concerns.
On paper, the phone may seem decent enough for its price. HMD usually focuses on offering clean software as well as practical features rather than flashy gimmicks. But when you look beyond the specifications, the bigger picture becomes difficult to ignore.
HMD’s Consistency Issue
The biggest problem right now is HMD itself. The company has been extremely inconsistent with its smartphone launches. In fact, HMD hasn’t launched a notable smartphone since September last year, which was the Vibe 5G. Since then, the brand has mostly remained silent or has expanded its feature phone portfolio, and that kind of gap matters more than many people think.
When a smartphone brand goes quiet for months, buyers naturally begin wondering what’s happening behind the scenes. Is the company slowing down? Will future devices get proper support? Will software updates arrive on time? These questions become important because a smartphone is not something people replace every year anymore.

HMD’s Software Update Policy Issue
Most users now expect at least four to five years of smooth usage from their phones. That’s exactly why software support has become such a major factor. And unfortunately, this is another area where the HMD Vibe 2 5G falls behind its rivals.
HMD is reportedly not offering any major Android OS upgrades for the HMD Vibe 2 5G. Even the security update promise is limited to just two years. In today’s market, that feels outdated, especially when competitors are pushing much harder.
Take the Redmi 15A 5G for example. Yes, it’s priced slightly higher but the premium spend on it is actually worth it. Xiaomi is reportedly offering four major Android updates along with six years of security patches on the device. That’s a massive difference for users planning to keep their phone for a long time.
Software support does affect everyday experience more than most people realise. A phone with regular updates stays secure, gets newer Android features, and generally feels fresh for longer. Without those updates, even good hardware can start feeling old much faster.
Another thing working against HMD is trust and consistency. Brands like Xiaomi, Realme, and Samsung keep launching products regularly and clearly communicate their update policies. HMD, meanwhile, has struggled to build that same confidence recently because of its long silence and limited software promises.
That doesn’t automatically make the HMD Vibe 2 5G a bad phone. It could still handle daily tasks well and offer a clean user experience. But if someone is spending their money expecting long-term peace of mind, there are stronger options available right now.
At the moment, the HMD Vibe 2 5G feels harder to recommend when alternatives like the Redmi 15A 5G are offering significantly better update support and stronger long-term value.
