Imagen AI uses artificial intelligence to edit your photos in Lightroom

Imagen AI recently announced its new desktop app for Mac and PC. Using artificial intelligence, it will automatically edit batches of your photos in Lightroom based on what it has learned from your past editing preferences. Users are required to upload at least 5,000 photos from their Lightroom catalogue to the Imagen AI app, that have already been edited, and an algorithm will generate a profile that can be applied to batches of up to 1,000 photos at a time.

Founder Yoav Chai had the good fortune of hiring a freelance photographer he admired for his wedding. However when it took three months to get edited photos back, Chai had an epiphany. ‘My background in artificial intelligence and this whole process got me thinking, “does it really take that long for photographers to provide such an integral part of their service?” As a photographer yourself, you know that the answer to this question is “yes”. But why should it be this way in 2021?’

Chai felt that photographers should have a tool that allows them to quickly process and deliver photos. This way creative professionals won’t spend an inordinate amount of time in front of their computer screen and can focus on starting new gigs or projects. While services such as ShootDotEdit provide a similar service, and Skylum created Luminar AI, Imagen promises to bring a more humanized element into the process of editing – that being your own personal style incorporated into final edits.

According to Imagen AI, Lightroom presets are a thing of the past. While they’ll get a batch of photos edited by applying a specific look and feel to all of them, it can take a great deal of time to alter each and every photo to one’s liking. Once you’ve created profiles with Imagen, and they recommend you do for for different conditions such as day or night, it will only take up to 20 minutes to edit up to 1,000 photos with your personalized style. The company estimates this could potentially cut a photographer’s editing time by up to 75%. You can still fine tune photos after the process completes if you wish but Imagen believes that this step won’t be too necessary.

For those not ready, confident enough in their editing style, or want to apply the aesthetic of a professional photographer, TALENTS is also available. You can try out these profiles on up to 1,000 photos free of charge. Imagen starts at $7.00 USD per month plus a ‘pay per use’ starting at four cents per photo, depending on how many photos are processed. TALENTS uses a similar pricing structure for their profiles. More information, and how to start a free 30-day trial, can be found on the company’s blog.
