Google has announced the stable release of Android 17 update and June 2026 Pixel drop for Pixel devices. Android 17 is rolling out first to Pixel today, followed by other eligible Android devices throughout 2026, as per Google. Select advanced devices will get Gemini Intelligence later this summer, confirmed the company.
Android 17: Everything New
One of the biggest additions in Android 17 is Bubbles, a new multitasking feature that allows users to turn almost any App into a floating window. By long-pressing an app icon, users can launch it as a compact overlay that remains accessible while using other apps. On large-screen and foldable devices, these floating apps are docked in a dedicated bubble bar, making it easier to switch between tasks, resize windows, or expand them into full-screen mode. Google says the feature is particularly useful for referencing maps, notes, tutorials, sports scores, or Messaging apps while working in another application. Bubbles can be created for up to 5 apps at a time.
Android 17 also introduces Screen Reactions, a new way to create reaction videos and tutorials. Users can now record their screen and front-facing camera simultaneously without relying on third-party apps. A redesigned screen recording interface further includes a new toolbar and controls that allow users to resize and reposition the selfie camera feed while recording. The feature is available across Android 17, while Pixel devices receive additional enhancements through the June Pixel Drop.
Gaming receives several upgrades as well, especially on foldable devices. Android 17 introduces a dedicated foldable gaming mode that uses a 50:50 layout, placing gameplay on the upper half of the screen and a dynamic virtual controller on the lower half. The update also reduces frame drops and stutters by improving memory management for high-performance games, per Google. Users connecting external controllers will also gain native controller remapping support.
Security and privacy are another major focus of Android 17. Users can now grant temporary access to precise location data instead of permanent permissions, while apps can be limited to specific contacts rather than accessing an entire address book. Google has also enhanced the “Mark as Lost” feature in Find Hub, allowing a lost device to be locked with biometric authentication even if someone knows the device PIN.
Additional security improvements include stronger Live Threat Detection for blocking suspicious apps and scams, upgraded Advanced Protection features for high-risk users, stricter PIN entry limits, and longer cooldown periods after repeated failed unlock attempts. Also, under the hood, Android 17 introduces app memory limits designed to prevent applications from consuming excessive RAM, improving overall performance and battery efficiency.
The update also includes several smaller quality-of-life improvements, such as the ability to hide app names on the home screen, expanded parental controls for all Android devices, separate volume controls for digital assistants, and more customization options for Android’s enhanced dark mode.

June 2026 Pixel Drop
For Pixel users, the June 2026 Pixel Drop adds several exclusive AI-powered features. Screen Reactions debuts first on Pixel devices, allowing users to create selfie-based reaction videos directly within screen recordings. Google is also introducing Gemini Omni 2, a new AI-powered video creation as well as editing tool that can generate videos from text prompts, photos, and existing clips. Users can even create AI avatars that look and sound like them.
Gemini is also gaining music generation capabilities through Gemini 3. Users can generate original songs and soundtracks by describing a concept or even uploading a photo, then customize the genre, vocals, lyrics, and tempo through natural language prompts.
Pixel devices are also receiving expanded AI assistance features. Magic Cue is coming to Snapchat, so it can show contextual suggestions within conversations. Google’s Take a Message feature is rolling out to more regions with support for Custom Greetings, while Manual Call Screen is finally launching in India, allowing Pixel users to screen unknown callers before answering.
Emergency features are becoming more proactive as well. Emergency Sharing is now integrated with Car Crash Detection, Fall Detection, and also Loss of Pulse Detection. If a serious incident is detected, Pixel devices can automatically contact emergency services while simultaneously notifying selected emergency contacts.
Google is also expanding Edit with Ask Photos to additional countries, allowing users to make complex photo edits simply by describing the changes they want. Meanwhile, Voice Translate is arriving on the Pixel 10a, where it offers real-time speech-to-speech translation during phone calls between multiple supported languages, including Hindi in preview.
