Fujifilm’s new Instax Mini Evo Hybrid is an instant camera with 10 integrated lenses and 10 film effects

Fujifilm North America Corporation has announced the INSTAX MINI EVO Hybrid Instant Camera (Mini Evo). It’s a ‘hybrid’ camera because it combines traditional analog instant camera technology with digital capabilities, like the ability to select, share and store images.

‘The INSTAX MINI EVO Hybrid Instant Camera offers a unique way to chronicle life’s milestones,’ said Manny Almeida, division president, Imaging Division, FUJIFILM North America Corporation. ‘This camera was designed to give the photographer the flexibility to choose which images to instantly print, which images to share, and which images to store for later access. This unique variety of options, when paired with the classic analog style of traditional INSTAX cameras, creates a premium experience for the consumer that transcends standard instant photography.’

The Instax Mini Evo instant camera includes 10 integrated lenses and 10 film effects, giving photographers 100 possible combinations to choose from. You can make prints directly from the camera using Instax Mini film or send photos to a connected smartphone camera roll using the Instax Mini Evo Smartphone application. Plus, a microSD card slot lets users store images for later. The camera includes internal storage to hold about 45 images. You don’t have to print every photo you take, nor does running out of Instax film mean you can’t continue using the Mini Evo. The Mini Evo includes a built-in Lithium Ion battery that enables printing of up to 100 images per charge, depending on individual use case.

Available lens effects include Normal, Vignette, Soft Focus, Blur, Fisheye, Color Shift, Light Leak, Mirror, Double Exposure and Half-Frame. The 10 Film Effects include Normal, Vivid, Pale, Canvas, Monochrome, Sepia, Yellow, Red, Blue and Retro.

The camera has a classic look, complete with a silver finish and black leatherette covering. The camera has a built-in 28mm (equivalent) F2.0 lens. The camera’s sensor is quite small; it’s a 1/5-inch CMOS with a primary color filter. Digital photos are 2560 x 1920, which is about 4.9MP. The back of the camera includes a few buttons and a 3-inch LCD to assist with framing and to navigate menus and stored images. There’s even a ‘film advance’ lever for printing, which is a nostalgic touch. The camera’s dimensions are 87 x 122.9 x 36 mm (excluding protruding panels) and it weighs approximately 285 g.

The camera has an ISO range of 100 to 1600 and a shutter speed range of 1/4s to 1/8000s. The camera can focus as close as 10cm. Exposure compensation is available from -2 to +2 EV and the camera uses a TTL metering system. In addition automatic white balance, there are a few user-selectable WB presets and the camera includes a built-in flash (range is approximately 50 cm to 1.5 m).

Alongside the Instax Mini Evo Hybrid Instant Camera, Fujifilm is releasing a new instant film, Instax Mini Stone Gray. This is a new twist on a traditional, white-bordered instant film. The new gray border provides ‘eye-catching contrast against vividly printed images,’ said Fujifilm. The new film will be available in a single pack with 10 exposures with a suggested retail price of $14.99 ($13.99 in Canada).

The Fujifilm Instax Mini Evo Hybrid Instant Camera will be available in the silver/black colorway option. Fujifilm expects it to be available for purchase beginning in February 2022 at a suggested retail price of $199.95 USD ($249.99 CAD). The new Stone Gray instant film will also be available in February.
