Asus Zenfone 8 to arrive with IP68 rating

The Asus Zenfone 8 is arriving on May 12, and it will be “big on performance” and “compact in size”. So far we know it will have a smooth display with a punch hole for the selfie camera, and we’re pretty sure it will be powered by the Snapdragon 888 chipset.

Today, the company posted on Twitter the new phones will also have an IP68 rating, meaning the Zenfone 8 will be waterproof and dustproof.

Asus has been in the phone business since 2005 and has been launching smartphones since 2012. However, none of the devices had any sort of official certification on being protected from water or dust ingress.

However, the IP68 rating raises some questions – if the new Zenfone 8 really has a punch hole and is protected from water, does that mean Asus has decided to omit the flip mechanism, seen in the previous two generations of flagships?

Also, if the cameras are here to stay, how did exactly Asus manage to waterproof the moving bits? Or is the IP68 only for a smaller device? We have to wait 9 more days until the official announcement to learn more details.
