Android 17 QPR2 Beta 1 has been released by Google for eligible Pixel phones. The new update brings a few bug fixes and comes at a time when QPR1 preview is now finished. The update will be released for the public in December this year. Google’s list of eligible devices for the QPR2 unsurprisingly excludes the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, the first devices which came with Google’s Proprietary Tensor Chipset under the hood.
The Android 17 QPR2 Beta 1 includes a minor SDK release with the following issues being addressed:
- Bluetooth re-pairing fails silently following a remote bond loss. (Issue #412524057)
- Media player controls briefly flashed on the lock screen upon waking the device despite the app’s notifications being disabled. (Issue #484607701)
- A system crash causing Pixel devices to unexpectedly reboot when invoking Gemini. (Issue #505750489)
- Initiating a drag-and-drop gesture with multiple fingers caused the source application to stop receiving subsequent touch events. (Issue #516836306)
- Notifications randomly became invisible in the notification shade until a system restart. (Issue #526139207, Issue #522657034)
- ML-DSA key generation fails with an exception when using the “NONE” string digest instead of the class constant. (Issue #525612735)
- An issue in AccessibilityNodeInfo.toString() where window bounds were incorrectly logged using screen bounds, which caused misleading accessibility debugging data. (Issue #520428442)
- Window-level UI blur effects failed to render and the “Allow window-level blurs” developer toggle reset after rebooting. (Issue #527376569)
You can get the Android 17 QPR2 Beta 1 today by enrolling your Pixel device in the beta program. Eligible devices include Pixel 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, 8, 8 Pro, 8a, 9, 9 Pro, 9a, Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, 10 Pro Fold, 10a, Pixel Tablet series devices. Once enrolled, eligible devices will receive an over-the-air (OTA) update to the latest Beta versions. If you were previously enrolled in Android 17 Beta (and have not opted-out), you will automatically receive QPR2 Beta 1 and any future Beta updates.

Note that Pixel 6 and 6 Pro won’t be receiving this update in December this year as the devices have reached their End of Life (via 9to5Google) Android 17 QPR1 beta series will be the last update for these devices. The devices will receive security patches till October and could also get another Pixel drop which will be its last one. As for the Pixel 6a, it will receive updates for one more year, till July 2027.
Earlier in December 2024, Google revised the updates policy for three of its phones, where it said that the Pixel Fold, Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 generations will receive a total of five years of Android OS updates increased from the previously promised 3 OS updates. With the debut of Tensor in Pixel 6 series, Google had a new update policy where the devices would receive a total of 5 years of updates, that included 3 OS updates and 5 years of security patches.
As for Android 17 QPR1, it should roll out to all supported Pixel devices in early September, after it most likely debuts on the Pixel 11 series.
