Worldcoin U.S. Launch: Orb Scans Live, No WLD Tokens

World, formerly Worldcoin, announced its expansion into the United States, launching operations in six major cities: San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Austin, Miami, and Nashville. The initiative, led by Tools for Humanity and co-founded by Sam Altman, opened flagship retail locations where individuals can scan their irises using Orb devices to create a World ID, a digital passport for verifying human identity online. Unlike in other countries, U.S. residents will not receive WLD cryptocurrency tokens due to regulatory restrictions, though they can access the World App’s crypto wallet. The project aims to deploy over 7,000 Orbs nationwide by year-end, targeting 180 million Americans, and includes partnerships with Visa for a “World Visa card” launching in summer 2025 and Match Group for World ID and age verification trials on Tinder in Japan.

Unlike in other countries, U.S. users will not receive WLD cryptocurrency tokens due to regulatory restrictions. However, users can still access the World App, which includes a secure crypto wallet for managing digital assets and credentials.

World aims to deploy over 7,000 Orbs across the U.S. by the end of 2025, targeting up to 180 million Americans. This nationwide rollout supports the project’s mission to provide proof of personhood in a digital world increasingly affected by bots, deepfakes, and AI-generated content.
