Today vivo started rolling out the update to Android 10 for the NEX 3 5G. A closed beta testing phase that accepted only a few units started about one month ago, and it seems like the testing went smoothly, as now we’re treated to the finalized release.
The NEX 3S 5G launched with Android 10 on board recently, and as this is just a NEX 3 with the Snapdragon 865 chipset and a new color version, it stands to reason that vivo didn’t have to do a lot of software tweaking for this rollout.

Of course it’s nothing close to ‘vanilla’ Android, this, instead you’re getting vivo’s own Funtouch OS 10 on top of Google’s latest. vivo’s modifications run deep, and the design language, while updated compared to Funtouch 9.1, is still very far removed from what anyone would dare to call ‘stock-like’.
Notifications look pretty much the same, the Quick Settings are still an entirely different part of the UI, and so on. On the plus side, the fonts seem to have been improved, and you can also choose to use the bottom ‘pill’ bar that Google introduced in Android 10’s gestures if you so wish. It is turned on by default, but can be turned off. Some Settings menu items have been moved around too (this seems to be par for the course for every update from every manufacturer), and there’s a fresher look overall.
The new software also includes the March 2020 security patch level. Note that we’re talking about the vivo NEX 3 5G with the model number V1924A here, other iterations may be in for some more waiting. The new software version is 6.10.1.
