Video compares Pixel 4 XL’s cameras against the iPhone XS Max

The latest in the Pixel leaks saga is a video comparing the cameras of the Pixel 4 XL and the iPhone XS Max (never mind that Google announced the phone’s unveiling date just yesterday). This video is by the same channel that compared the Pixel 4 XL cam with the Galaxy Note10+.

The video starts with details on the camera hardware. The wide camera on the back is based on a Sony IMX363 image sensor – 12.2MP with 1.4µm pixels, 1/2.55”. This is the same sensor that the Pixel 3 and 3a use. The telephoto camera has an IMX481 sensor – 16MP with 1.0µm pixels, 1/3.6”.

The selfie camera uses an 8MP IMX520 sensor (1.22µm). As you can see, there’s also an OVM infrared sensor, which will be used for the 3D face scanner on the front.

Anyway, the video then proceeds to compare the image quality of the two phones. At this resolution you can’t tell much, but the difference in the low-light sample was clear enough. Same for the video stabilization test.

Of course, the XS Max is the outgoing model – it would have been better to compare the Pixel 4 XL against the iPhone 11 Pro. But then having two unreleased phones in one video may be too much to ask.
