Venus Optics’ Laowa Nanomorph now have a Silver option for more neutral flares

Venus Optics’ Indiegogo campaign for its new Laowa Nanormorph lenses isn’t even over and already the company has announced another variation for cinematographers who want a more neutral flare.

At launch, Venus Optics said its ultra-compact Laowa Nanomorph lenses would be available in both Amber and Blue varieties, which offer warmer and cooler flares and highlights, respectively, to suit the aesthetic desires of the artist shooting with them. While having both options to choose from is a nice change of pace compared to some companies that only launch anamorphic lenses with one or the other, Venus Optics is taking it a step further by offering a new ‘Silver’ option. This third iteration will provide neutral-colored flares and highlights that offers ‘relatively subtler and less distracting’ flares compared to its Amber and Blue contemporaries

Below is some demo footage showing the difference between the Blue and Silver versions of the same scene:

The Silver 27mm T2.8, 35mm T2.4 and 50mm T2.4 lenses remain entirely unchanged from the Amber and Blue models, which are designed for Super 35 and Micro Four thirds sensors and available for Canon EF, PL mount, Canon R, Sony E, M43, DJI DL, Nikon Z, L mount and Fuji X mount systems. They will also cost the same, so you’re not paying a premium for one color variation over the other.

Due to being launched mid-way through the campaign, selecting the Silver Nanomorph lenses is a bit trickier, but Venus Optics has provided clear instructions to make sure you get the color you want. First, choose the Blue flare option when making your pledge, then fill out this Google Form and select the actual color you want. With that form submitted, you shuold receive the color you ordered when the Nanormorph lenses eventuallys tart shipping out.

A pricing breakdown of the various lenses and bundles still available.

You can purchase just one of the three Nanomorph lenses or purchase them as a kit. Prices start at $899 for just one lens and $2,429 for all three, although the PL and EF mount versions come at a premium. The first units are expected to ship out September 2022. To find out more, head on over to the Nanomorph Indiegogo campaign, which has already surpassed its initial funding goal by more than half a million dollars.
