Venus Optics brings 3 Laowa prime lenses, including its wild 24mm F14 Macro Probe lens, to Canon RF and Nikon Z mount cameras

Venus Optics has announced its bringing its popular 24mm F14 2x Macro Probe lens, as well as its 4mm F2.8 Fisheye and 9mm F2.8 Zero-D lenses, to Canon RF and Nikon Z mount mirrorless camera systems.

Venus Optics’ press release says the new mount options will be available to order starting this Friday, November 5, 2021. Aside from the new mount options, the lenses remain unchanged. Below is a quick refresher for each of the three lenses.

Laowa 4mm F2.8 Fisheye

This manual fisheye lens is constructed of seven elements in six groups, features an F2.8 through F16 aperture range, uses a seven-blade aperture diaphragm and has a minimum focusing distance of 80cm (31.5”). It is available in both full-frame and APS-C mount options and weighs roughly 135g (4.7oz).

Laowa 9mm F2.8 Zero-D

This manual lens is part of Venus Optics’ ‘Zero Distortion’ line and is constructed of 15 elements in 10 groups, including three extra-low dispersion elements, two aspherical elements and Venus Optics’ Frog Eye Coating on the front element to protect it from dust and dirt. Other features include an F2.8 through F22 aperture range, a 12cm (4.7”) minimum focusing distance and a weight of 215g (7.6oz).

Laowa 24mm F14 2x Macro Probe

This rather unique lens offers one of the most unique perspectives you’ll ever find in a consumer lens. Designed for both video and still photography, this lens is constructed of 27 elements in 19 groups, including two extra-low dispersion elements and an extra-refractive element. It offers a minimum focusing distance of 2cm (.8”), which provides a 2:1 magnification ratio, and has an LED array around the front element of the lens to ensure your tiny subjects are well-lit without the need for additional lighting.

The ‘Standard’ stills version features your traditional knurled focus and aperture ring, while the ‘Cine-mod’ version offers your typical geared focus and aperture rings for direct or remote follow focus systems. Venus Optics has an array of sample images and videos captured with this lens on its product page.

The new Canon RF and Nikon Z mount options for the Laowa 24mm F14 2x Macro Probe, 4mm F2.8 Fisheye and 9mm F2.8 Zero-D lenses are expected to retail for 220,000 yen (1,950), 73,000 yen (~$650) and 28,000 yen (~$250), respectively, which puts them in line with the pricing of the existing mount options.
