Oppo seems to be keeping busy working of variants of the vanilla Oppo A16 announced back in July. Last month an Oppo A16s version was revealed, which basically just added NFC to the original. Now there is a new A16K already on sale in the Philippines. It, however, actually features quite a few changes, or rather downgrades compared to the regular Oppo A16.
For one, the Oppo A16K ditches its two supplementary 2MP cameras on the back and just leaves the main 13MP, f/2.2, 1/3.06″, 1.12µm, PDAF snapper intact. Don’t get fooled by the “dual camera” island either. That’s just a design choice, with the rear camera hole simply covered by an “AI” text. The selfie camera is swapped for a lower-res 5MP unit. The A16K also downgrades the battery capacity down from 5,000 mAh to 4,230 mAh. That also comes with a reduction in overall device dimensions. The Oppo A16K measures 164.0 x 75.4 x 7.85 mm and tips the scale at 175 grams, compared to the vanilla’s 163.8 x 75.6 x 8.4 mm and 190 grams. It feature a plastic back and glass front.
The rest of the specs sheet appears to be borrowed straight from the Oppo A16. This includes a 6.52-inch, 720 x 1600 pixel, IPS LCD display, with a teardrop notch. On the inside – a MediaTek Helio G35 chipset, alongside 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, expandable via microSD. This matches up with the base tier on the regular Oppo A16. In terms of connectivity, you get Dual Nano-SIM slots and dual 4G, Dual Band Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO and BeiDou, a dated micro-USB port with 10W of max charging for the battery, USB 2.0 data transfer speeds and OTG support. There is also a trusty old 3.5mm audio jack on board as well as a compass, ambient light sensor, proximity sensor and accelerometer.
Oppo A16K
The Oppo A16K is already on sale in the Philippines. It can be had in either Black or Blue colors for PHP 6,999, which works out to around $140. Seeing how the previous generation Oppo A15K did make it to India as well, we expect the A16K will follow in the same steps soon.
