Samyang announces new 12mm F2 autofocus lens for Sony APS-C mirrorless cameras

Samyang, also known as Rokinon and Bower depending on your region, has announced the 12mm F2 E, a new autofocus wide-angle prime lens for Sony APS-C mirrorless camera systems.

The len, which offers a similar angle-of-view to an 18mm lens on a full-frame camera, is constructed of 12 elements in 10 groups, including three extra-low dispersion elements and two aspherical elements. Other specifications note a 19cm (7.5”) minimum focusing distance, a seven-blade aperture diaphragm and a 62mm front filter thread.

Samyang doesn’t divulge any details regarding the lens’ autofocus system, other than to say it is faster and quieter than past versions thanks to the newly-developed stepping motor inside the lens. The lens measures in at 70mm (2.8”) long, 59.2mm (2.3”) in diameter and weighs 213g (7.5oz).

The Samyang AF 12mm F2 E (ASP-C) is available to pre-order starting today (B&H) for $399. The first units are expected to start shipping in June 2021.
