Samyang announces $500 12mm F2 AF lens for Fujifilm X mount cameras

Samyang has announced its new 12mm F2.0 AF lens for Fujifilm X mount camera systems, which offers a full-frame equivalent focal length of 18mm. This compact ultrawide lens appears to be a slightly tweaked version of the APS-C Sony E mount 12mm F2 lens revealed earlier this year.

Like its E mount predecessor, the X mount 12mm F2 AF lens is constructed of 12 elements in 10 groups, including three extra-low dispersion elements, one hybrid-aspherical element and one aspherical element. Samyang is also using an ‘advanced version’ of its Ultra Multi Coating (UMC) to reduce flaring and ghosting.

Other features include an F2 through F22 aperture range, a seven-blade aperture diaphragm, a 62mm filter thread and a minimum focusing distance of 19cm (7.5”). The lens uses Samyang’s Linear Stepping Motor (STM) for driving its single-group autofocus and measures 70mm (2.75″) in diameter, 59.2mm (2.33″) in length and weighs 213g (7.5oz).

The Samyang 12mm F2.0 AF lens is currently available to pre-order for $500 on Samyang’s online shop and through authorized Samyang (and Rokinon) retailers.
