Samsung’s Unpacked event today had more than just the Galaxy S23 series. The company introduced four new laptops in the Galaxy Book3 Pro series, led by a new flagship – the Galaxy Book3 Ultra.
Let’s start with the latter, which is the first ultra-powerful Samsung laptop since the Odyssey. The Galaxy Book3 Ultra comes in a single 16-inch size, but it’s nicely svelte at 16.5mm and 1.79kg.
The Galaxy Book3 Ultra packs the most powerful configuration among the Book3 series with a choice of Intel’s latest Core i7-13700H or Core i9-13900H 45W processors, up to 32GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and up to 1TB of PCIe 4.0 SSD. There are discrete graphics too – either the RTX 4050 or the RTX 4070.
The display up front is a state-of-the-art 16-inch 16:10-aspect Dynamic AMOLED 2x of 2880x1800px resolution. The panel can adaptively refresh from 48Hz to 120Hz and can reach up to 500 nits for HDR content (Vesa DisplayHDR 500 certified), or up to 400 nits otherwise. The Galaxy Book3 Ultra ships with a 76Wh pack and comes with a 100W USB-C charger.
The Galaxy Book3 Pro comes in two sizes – 14-inch and 16-inch, while the Galaxy Book3 Pro 360 only comes with a 16-inch display. They share quite a bit of underlying technology with the Ultra. For starters, the display specs across all four models are the same – you get a variably-refreshing AMOLED panel of 2880x1800px resolution.
So are the ports – there’s a 3.5mm jack, microSD slot, one USB-A, 2 USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, and one full-sized HDMI (spec 1.4 on the Pros and 2.0 on the Ultra).
All four laptops also share their multimedia credentials – you get two 5W woofers and two 2W tweeters – with AKG and Dolby Atmos certification – as well as studio-quality dual microphones. The webcam is also the same 1080p unit across all models.
The Galaxy Book3 Pro models ship with a new 65W USB-C adapter with Power Delivery that can double as your Galaxy phone or tablet charger.
You can configure the Galaxy Book3 Pro and Galaxy Book3 Pro 360 with a choice of Intel’s 13th-gen 28W Core i5-1340P or Core i7-1360P with 8/12/16GB LPDDR5 RAM and a choice of 256GB, 512GB or up to 1TB of PCIe 4.0 SSDs.
The Galaxy Book3 Pro 14-inch model has a 63Wh battery, while the 16-inch Galaxy Book3 Pro and Book3 Pro 360 have the same 76Wh as the Galaxy Book3 Ultra.
The 14-inch Galaxy Book3 Pro is just 11.3mm thick and weighs 1.17kg. The 16-inch measures 12.5mm and 1.56kg, respectively.
The Galaxy Book3 Pro 360 is 12.8mm thick and weighs 1.66kg for the regular model, and 1.71kg if you opt for the 5G version. The Galaxy Book3 Pro 360 also supports the S Pen, which comes in the box.
Samsung has made its Book3 series deeply integrated with its Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The so-called Galaxy Connected Experience brings a number of important features. Multi control allows you to directly control your smartphone through the laptop, drag and drop files, as well as copy and paste both text and images.
The Second Screen lets you use your tablet as an extension or mirror to your laptop’s screen. Phone Link lets you activate the phone’s hotspot functionality directly from the laptops. There’s Expert RAW auto share, which can automatically transfer RAW files from your Galaxy phone to your Galaxy Book3 laptop while you’re shooting.
Finally, Samsung has added its Smart Switch and Samsung Pass to the Galaxy Book3 series.
The Samsung Galaxy Book3 Ultra will ship in a single Graphite color, while the Galaxy Book3 Pro and Book3 Pro 360 can be had in both Graphite and Beige. The Galaxy Book3 Pro, and Pro 360 will be available on February 17, while the Galaxy Book3 Ultra will be on sale starting February 22.
The Galaxy Book3 Ultra’s i7 version with 16GB, 512GB storage and RTX4050 costs €2,799/$2,400/£2,449, while the i9 version with 32GB RAM and 1TB storage and RTX4070 is €3,699. The Galaxy Book3 Pro 360 has four versions priced between €1,799/1,900/£1,549 (i5 CPU, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Wi-Fi only) and €2,699 (i7 CPU, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD and 5G).
