Yesterday, the Galaxy Z Flip4 and Z Fold4 received their first One UI 5 beta while the Z Flip3 got beta #2 (with the Z Fold3 expected to follow soon). Samsung is still going down the list and now it is Galaxy Z Fold2’s time to try out Android 13 and the latest One software.
This will be the last hurrah for the 2020 foldable, which came out with Android 10. It is eligible for 3 OS updates and this will be its third and final one (the next-gen foldables got promoted to 4 OS updates). That’s as many updates as the Pixel phones are getting, plus the Z Fold2 will continue receiving security patches – Samsung has committed to supporting it for 4 years, i.e. until late 2024.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 enters the One UI 5 beta testing program
Back to the beta – it is currently rolling out to units in South Korea, but should reach other markets soon enough. Note: in Korea both SIM-free and phones from carriers are eligible for the update.
If you want to try it out (and accept that it probably has bugs), you can use the Samsung Members app to sign up for the beta program. One final bit of warning – installing the beta is easy enough, rolling back to stable Android 12 requires a full wipe so back up your data before you start.
PS. if you’re wondering what is happening with the Z Flip side of the 2020 foldables, the original model was recently updated to One UI 4.1.1, but there’s no mention of version 5 yet. However, the Z Flip and Z Flip 5G have the same software support windows (3 OS updates, 4 years of patches), so it should be only a matter of time before the Flips join the beta program too.
