Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra’s camera detailed: 10x folded periscope joins 3x tele camera

Leakster is confirming the Galaxy S21 Ultra camera specs that were leaked last month. The illustration below shows sensor details for all five camera modules (the S21 and S21+ are getting triple cameras).

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra's camera detailed: 10x folded periscope joins 3x tele camera

The main module on the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G houses the upcoming 108MP ISOCELL HM3 sensor with 0.8 µm pixels (with 9-in-1 binning support) and Super PD autofocus. It will have 12% better light sensitivity than the HM1 sensor that Samsung used this year.

The resolution is high enough for lossless digital zoom up to 3x. The phone will also have a dedicated 3x telephoto camera with a 10MP sensor (ISOCELL Fast 3J1) with 1.22µm pixels and Dual Pixel AF. Zoom beyond 3x will likely merge data from the wide and 3x tele cameras (which are right next to each other).

The folded periscope will take over once 10x magnification is reached. This one will use the same 10MP 3J1 sensor as the other tele camera (for comparison, the Note20 Ultra periscope module had a 12MP sensor with 1.4µm pixels).

Finally, there’s a 12MP ultra wide camera with an IMX563 sensors (1.4µm, 1/2.55”). This is the only Sony sensor on the back of the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G, possibly on the entire phone depending on the selfie camera (the S20 Ultra uses a Samsung sensor).

The phone will stick with the Laser autofocus assist that the Note20 Ultra used, instead of having another go at making S20 Ultra’s 3D ToF sensor work.
