Samsung Galaxy A74 reportedly won’t exist, A7x series ended

For quite a while now Samsung’s best selling smartphone series has been the A5x. But up until now, it wasn’t the top dog of the A series, that honor reserved to the A7x. Well, according to a new rumor, that’s all set to change next year, as there will be no A7x device no more.

That’s right, the A73 was apparently the last A7x model ever made, as Samsung will not release an A74 in 2023, thus leaving the Galaxy A54 to be the headliner of the A series in both sales appeal but also sheer specs.

While other upcoming Ax4 handsets have been leaked, no such thing happened to the A74, and that’s allegedly due to the simple fact that there is no A74 in development, nor will there ever be.

This may sound odd, but consider that the Galaxy A73 was already marginalized in Samsung’s portfolio, getting a release in a smaller number of countries than the A72 before it. So perhaps the tale of the A73 was foreshadowing what was going to inevitably happen with the A74.

There’s also no word about a Galaxy S22 FE or S23 FE, which leaves a weird (and pretty huge) price gap between the A54 and the S23, wide open for Chinese competitors to take advantage of. It’s a questionable strategy at best, to leave yourself exposed to the competition like that, but maybe Samsung does have a plan – selling the S22 at an even larger discount and slotting it in there? We’ll have to wait for the S23’s introduction to find out. Thankfully, that’s only a few weeks away, now rumored to take place on February 1.
