Samsung unveiled the Galaxy A22 4G and 5G last June and followed up with the Galaxy A22s 5G in November, which is just a rebranded A22 5G. And while we wait for the Korean conglomerate to announce the Galaxy A23, we now hear of a new smartphone that could go official soon – the Galaxy A22e 5G.
The Samsung Galaxy A22e 5G has bagged Bluetooth SIG’s certification, taking it a step closer to launch. The certifying authority doesn’t reveal the A22e 5G’s specifications, but it tells us that the smartphone has model designation SC-56B, which is the same as the Galaxy A22 5G launched in Japan last year, meaning the A22e 5G could share the specs with the Japanese Galaxy A22 5G.

It’s worth noting that the Japanese Galaxy A22 5G and the one announced last June have different specs. For starters, the Japanese model features a smaller TFT screen (5.8″) with lower resolution (HD+) and 60Hz refresh rate, packs a smaller battery (4,000 mAh), and comes with a total of two cameras instead of four – a 13MP primary unit on the rear and a 5MP selfie shooter inside the notch.
The Japanese Galaxy A22 5G is 8.9mm thick, weighs 168 grams, and is IP68 rated. It also has an NFC chip on board but skips the side-mounted fingerprint reader. The smartphone boots Android 11 and comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. However, it also has a microSD card slot for storage expansion by up to 1TB.
Global Galaxy A22 5G • Japanese Galaxy A22 5G
Samsung says the Japanese Galaxy A22 5G is powered by an octa-core processor, with the power cores having a maximum clock frequency of 2.2GHz and efficiency cores capped at 2GHz. Samsung hasn’t mentioned the chipset’s name, but it could be the Dimensity 700 SoC we have on the non-Japanese A22 5G.
It’s unclear when Samsung will introduce the Galaxy A22e 5G, but you can expect to learn more about it as it bags more certifications.
