Ripple unleashes a $25 million RLUSD initiative to uplift U.S. education, delivering digital asset-powered classroom support and driving transformative impact for students and educators nationwide.
Ripple Pledges $25M in RLUSD to Support US Educators
Ripple announced on May 5 a $25 million education initiative in collaboration with Donorschoose and Teach For America, pledging support for U.S. classrooms and educators through a first-of-its-kind deployment of its stablecoin. The commitment, unveiled during Teacher Appreciation Week, will be primarily distributed in Ripple USD (RLUSD), marking a novel step in stablecoin-based philanthropic funding. Ripple stated:
In a first-of-its-kind initiative, Donorschoose and Teach For America will accept the majority of the $25 million grant in Ripple USD (RLUSD), Ripple’s U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin.
The funding is designed to address widespread dissatisfaction with the U.S. education system, which remains under strain due to limited resources and persistent inequality. A Gallup survey from 2024 showed that 55% of Americans are unhappy with the state of K-12 education. Ripple’s initiative aims to directly assist students and teachers by supporting classroom projects, expanding tutoring programs through Teach For America, and launching new STEM and financial literacy efforts across the country. The announcement highlighted the burden many educators face, including spending their own money on supplies, and the growing role of digital assets in delivering aid efficiently.
Ripple’s CEO Brad Garlinghouse stated that the initiative aligns with the company’s broader mission of enabling access and impact through blockchain-based solutions. “Ripple has always championed financial and educational access for all, and we’re partnering with some of the most impactful organizations – Donorschoose and Teach For America – to benefit thousands of classrooms across the U.S.,” he said.
The company has a longstanding history of philanthropic involvement. The announcement details:
Since 2018, Ripple has contributed over $200 million to global initiatives, with nearly 80% of employees participating in giving and volunteering programs.
This latest pledge further underscores Ripple’s focus on education and economic empowerment, leveraging blockchain to reach underserved communities. The company is encouraging others to contribute to the effort: “Those interested in fueling the future of teachers and K-12 classrooms can donate RLUSD, XRP and other cryptocurrencies via The Giving Block.”
