A new report has emerged online suggesting that the revamped Siri is coming this June with iOS 27, also bringing along with it a chatbot-like experience which competitors like Gemini, ChatGPT, Perplexity, etc., already offer. Here’s what else we know about the major incoming upgrade to Siri.
The report by Bloomberg suggests that Apple is preparing a major overhaul of Siri later this year, with plans to transform the voice assistant into its first full-fledged AI chatbot as the company looks to catch up in the fast-moving generative AI space currently led by OpenAI and Google.
According to the publication’s sources familiar with the matter, the revamped Siri is internally codenamed “Campos” and will be deeply integrated across Apple’s ecosystem, including iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The new version is expected to replace Siri’s existing interface, while keeping the same activation methods – users will still be able to trigger it by saying “Siri” or by holding the side button on supported devices.
Unlike the current version of Siri, which is largely command-based, the upcoming chatbot is designed to support more natural, conversational interactions. This would bring Apple closer to the chat-style experiences offered by rivals such as ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, which allow users to hold ongoing, context-aware conversations rather than issuing one-off commands.
The shift is seen as a key part of Apple’s broader effort to reset its AI strategy. Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI platform unveiled in 2024, faced a mixed reception, with several features rolling out later than expected and others failing to impress users. While Apple is already planning incremental Siri improvements for early 2026, the chatbot-style overhaul represents a more fundamental rethink of how the assistant works.
If the plans move forward as expected, the new Siri experience could mark Apple’s most serious push yet into generative AI, positioning it more directly against established players in the space.

Apple’s Siri roadmap now includes two distinct phases. The first is a previously announced, non-chatbot update coming with iOS 26.4 in the next few months. This update will keep Siri’s current interface while adding features first shown in 2024, such as on-screen content analysis, deeper access to personal data, and improved web search capabilities.
The bigger shift with the completely revamped Siri will arrive later in the year. Sources say Apple plans to preview the chatbot at WWDC in June, with a public release expected around September. Campos will support both voice and text input and will be deeply integrated into iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 (code-named Rave), as well as macOS 27 (Fizz). Outside of this AI overhaul, Apple’s upcoming operating systems are expected to focus mainly on performance improvements and bug fixes rather than major design changes. The company already announced a new Liquid Glass user interface with iOS 26 last year and plans to optimise and improve it further in iOS 27.
Unlike today’s version, the revamped Siri chatbot will offer a conversational experience similar to ChatGPT or Google Gemini, with the ability to search the web, generate and summarize content, analyze files, create images, and complete tasks using personal data such as messages, calendar events, files, and music. A key differentiator is that Apple’s chatbot is designed to understand on-screen content and open apps, allowing it to take actions like adjusting settings, making calls, setting timers, or launching the camera.
Apple is testing the chatbot internally as a standalone Siri app, though it does not plan to release it to the public. Instead, the technology will be built directly into the operating system and tightly integrated with core apps like Mail, Photos, Music, TV, Podcasts, and even Xcode. This would allow more complex voice-driven tasks, such as finding and editing photos based on descriptions or drafting emails using calendar information.
Further, Bloomberg says that Apple is also debating how much user memory the chatbot should retain, with a strong inclination toward limiting long-term memory compared to rival AI assistants. While the interface will be Apple-designed, the underlying AI models are based on advanced Google Gemini technology. This was expected as the official announcement regarding Gemini powering Siri came only a few days back.
The iOS 26.4 Siri update will run on Apple Foundation Models version 10, while Campos is expected to use a more powerful next-generation model, internally called Apple Foundation Models version 11.
In a notable shift, Apple is also discussing hosting the chatbot on Google’s cloud infrastructure using TPUs, rather than relying entirely on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute servers. Apple reportedly pays Google around $1 billion annually for access to its AI models, highlighting how important this partnership has become to Apple to fuel its generative AI features.
