Renders based on Xiaomi patent show a stunning rollable smartphone

Foldable phones are still few and rare but the technology enabling bolder designs is constantly maturing. The latest trend is the rollable displays which were demoed by TCL and Oppo and it seems Xiaomi might soon join their company with its own offering.

A Xiaomi patent from last year filled with the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) shows the brand’s vision of a device with a retractable display that stretches sideways to a tablet form.

Jermaine Smit (aka Concept Creator) used the patent sketches to create a set of renders which better illustrate the concept device. We can see the device comes with a wraparound screen similar to the Mi Mix Alpha concept phone.

As with all patents and early sketches take this info and imagery with more than a few grains of salt as there’s no telling if or when we’ll see a comercially ready product similar to this.
