Razer Edge handheld Android console announced

RazerCon 2022 kicked off during the weekend and today CEO Min-Liang Tan formally announced the company’s first handheld Android gaming console – the Razer Edge. The device was teased late last month and is the first commercially available 5G handheld console with support for sub-6 Ghz and mmWave connectivity. The 5G versions will be exclusive to Verizon and will also support the LTE, UMTS, Global LTE and LTE Cat 22 bands.

Razer Edge brings a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ (2400×1080) px resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. There’s also a 5MP 1080P webcam upfront. Razer is using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 chipset alongside 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB UFS 3.1 storage which is expandable up to 2TB via the microSD slot. You can play Android games natively, stream PC games from your computer library or play cloud titles from services like Xbox Cloud Gaming or Nvidia GeForce Now.

Razer Edge comes bundled with the Razer Kishi V2 Pro controller which offers dual analog sticks, a D-pad, 8 buttons, 2 triggers and 2 bumpers alongside a pair of programmable buttons and HyperSense haptics. The controller also adds a 3.5mm headphone jack and USB-C port.

Razer Edge measures 260 x 85 x 11 mm and weighs 264grams on its own while the Razer Kishi V2 Pro controller ads another 137 grams bringing the total weight to 401 grams. The software side is covered by Android 12 while the battery comes in at 5,000 mAh.

The W-Fi-only Razer Edge edition comes in at $400 while the Founders Edition which bundles the Razer Hammerhead True Wireless (2021) earbuds will go for $500. The 5G model is labeled as coming soon though its pricing is not yet confirmed. Buysers can reserve a Razer Edge starting today by pledging $5 on Razer’s site which will then be deducted from the console’s final price.
