PUBG Mobile Esports picks Sony Xperia flagships as the official smartphones for the 2022  tournaments

Sony Xperia is the official smartphone partner for the 2022 global tournaments in PUBG Mobile. Sony will supply its flagships to pro players around the world for the upcoming competitions.

This year more tournaments will be held in more regions so that more people will have the opportunity to compete. There will be two major events – the 2022 PUBG Mobile Global Championship and a mid-year tournament (details on the latter will be revealed soon).

“The player experience is always of a top priority for PUBG MOBILE Esports so it felt natural and confident to enter a partnership with Sony’s Xperia™. We look forward to seeing our players showcasing an even stronger performance with their Xperia flagship series at our global tournaments this year.” said James Yang, Director of PUBG Mobile Global Esports.

You may not think of the Sony Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III as gaming phones, but Sony actually put a lot of effort into making them just that. The engineers have been consulting pro players since the Mark II generation. They went as far as recording the finger movements of the players and replicating them with a robot to help them fine-tune the display. The display has a 120 Hz refresh rate and 240 Hz touch sampling rate, by the way.

Then there are features like the “L-γ raiser”, which brightens up the shadows (without blowing out the rest of the image) to make it easier to spot enemies hiding in the dark. It will be interesting to see if the tournament rules allow the usage of this feature and Sony’s other game tweaks.
