Oppo to launch Kodak-branded Find X3 Pro Photographer Edition smartphone

Smartphone manufacturer Oppo has had a busy 2021. In March, Oppo launched the Find X3 Pro smartphone, its flagship Android device. In August, Oppo unveiled its next-generation under-screen camera and showed off its new RGBW image sensor, OIS zoom camera module and 5-axis OIS technology for future smartphones. Returning to Oppo’s big March announcement, the Find X3 Pro phone. Oppo is poised to launch a special edition of the phone in partnership with iconic camera brand, Kodak.

GSM Arena writes that following Oppo and Kodak announcing a partnership this month, the first new product to hit the market is the Find X3 Pro Photographer Edition. The special smartphone has the same internals and features as the Find X3 Pro that debuted in March but now includes design elements to resemble a classic Kodak 35 camera, including a matte silver top portion and black leather bottom segment.

Find X3 Pro Photographer Edition

What are we looking at it in terms of camera features in the Find X3 Pro Photographer Edition? The smartphone has a quad-camera system. Its wide and ultra-wide lenses each include a Sony IMX766 50MP image sensor. The wide lens has an F1.8 maximum aperture and includes optical image stabilization. The ultra-wide lens offers a 110.3° field of view and F2.2 aperture. It doesn’t include OIS, but both wide and ultra-wide cameras include all-pixel phase-detect autofocus.

Another camera is the macro camera. It has a 3MP sensor, F3.0 aperture and offers 60x magnification. Given its relatively low resolution, the microlens camera can’t record 4K video but only FHD video.

Rounding out the quartet of rear cameras is a 13MP telephoto camera. Its lens offers an F2.4 aperture, and the camera includes 5x hybrid optical zoom and 20x digital zoom.

The front-facing camera has a relatively high megapixel count, coming in at 32MP. The selfie camera has an F2.4 aperture.

Other features in the Find X3 Pro, which will almost certainly make their way to the Find X3 Pro Photographer Edition, include 10-bit color management allowing the camera to process and display a billion colors (per Oppo) and IP68 weather resistance. The display should remain the same, too. It’s a 6.7″ QHD+ (3216 x 1440) OLED display with 525PPI pixel density. The screen has a maximum brightness of 1,300 nits and promises a color accuracy rating of 0.4 JNCD.

The original Find X3 Pro is a sleek smartphone. The new Photographer Edition looks quite different, although should perform identically.

The smartphone can also record 4K 10-bit video in log format, which promises to look good on the color-accurate display. Video content should sound good, too, as the device has Dolby Atmos-powered speakers. The Find X3 Pro is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chip and supports Dual Mode 5G.

Although the official event for the new special edition Kodak-inspired smartphone isn’t until September 16, where Oppo will also focus on its new operating system, we also know that the Find X3 Pro Photographer Edition will come with a special edition case and ship in a collector’s box. The product does a good job of mimicking the look of the old Kodak 35 camera from 1938, as you can see below.

At this point, it’s not clear what else may come of Oppo and Kodak’s new partnership. We’ve previously seen smartphone and camera company team-ups, including vivo and Zeiss and OnePlus and Hasselblad.1 Where those partnerships include co-development of different camera technologies, it seems that so far, Oppo and Kodak are focused on aesthetic teamwork. This makes sense, as Kodak doesn’t have as impressive a reputation in the digital photography sphere as Zeiss and Hasselblad.

1 Interestingly, OnePlus, Oppo and vivo are all owned by the same parent company, BBK Electronics.
