OnePlus CEO and co-founder, Pete Lau, talked about the future OnePlus 8-series in a recent interview and although he didn’t confirm the actual naming he gave us a few interesting bits. Both the non-Pro and the Pro versions of the upcoming handset will cost a little bit more because of 5G.
It’s no secret by now that the new OnePlus phones will be equipped with Qualcomm’s latest flagship SoC, the Snapdragon 865 along with the Snapdragon X55 modem, which in turn means that the OnePlus 8-series will support 5G connectivity.
Coming straight from the CEO himself, the handsets’ prices are expected to climb up, but he also assured fans that the price won’t be anywhere near the $1,000 mark. How far they will be remains to be seen, but with the OnePlus 7 Pro (the US missed on the 7T Pro) starting at $669, we can expect pricing between $700 and $800 for the 8T Pro.
This is a trend with all flagships launching this year so it doesn’t really come as a surprise that the new OnePlus phones will come with a price hike. What we’ve been able to gather so far, not only are the chipset and the modem more expensive but the antennas add quite a lot too.
In any case, the new OnePlus smartphones are expected to land sometime in April.
