ON1 Unveils ON1 Photo RAW 2021 and Launches All-New ON1 Portrait AI

Portland-based software company ON1 made three announcements yesterday. It launched a new application called ON1 Portrait AI, pushed a major update to ON1 Photo RAW Mobile for iOS and Android, and unveiled the latest version of the ON1 Photo RAW desktop editor, which will officially launch in October.

ON1 Portrait AI

As the name suggests, ON1 Portrait AI is a stand-alone application (also available as a plug-in) that uses machine learning technology to simplify the portrait retouching process. The application will compete with the AI-powered portrait editing tools that are already available in Luminar 4.0 and coming to Luminar AI; however, it seems ON1 has taken a bit more of a “professional” approach in how they allow uses to apply these features.

According to ON1, Portrait AI classifies every face in your photos, then adds the “right amount of realistic retouching” to every individual’s skin, eyes, and mouth. Additionally, you’ll be able to apply more advanced edits like frequency separation, shine reduction, blemish removal, face sculpting, and eye/teeth whitening.

You can see the interface for yourself in the screenshots below:

“This product was created to solve the main problem portrait photographers face, spending way too much time editing individual portraits or entire shoots,” explains Dan Harlacher, ON1’s VP of Product. “They need more time to focus on important things related to their photography business ON1 Portrait AI is incredibly fast at getting through an entire shoot, no matter how many different people, and gives stunning results.”

ON1 Portrait AI is officially available today for a special introductory price of $60, after which it will go up to an MSRP of $80. The tool is available as either a stand-alone application or as a plug-in for Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, Affinity PHoto, Corel Paintshop Pro, or Apple Photos (Capture One support is coming soon).

ON1 Photo RAW Mobile and ON1 Photo RAW 2021

In addition ON1 Portrait AI, the company also released a major update to ON1 Photo RAW Mobile for iOS, iPadOS and Android, and unveiled (but didn’t launch) the next major update that’s coming to the ON1 Photo RAW desktop editor next month.

The main updates to ON1 Photo RAW Mobile have to do with masking. The app now includes powerful intelligent masking features as well as ON1’s edge-detecting “Perfect Brush,” which should make it easier to paint in selections using your finger if you don’t own an Apple Pencil or Android stylus.

Meanwhile, ON1 Photo RAW 2021 will be “packed full of new features and performance enhancements” when it arrives in October. In addition to ON1 Portrait AI, which will be built into the editing suite, a new “Smart Organize” mode promises to speed up culling, all-new custom brush shapes let you get more creative, a non-destructive healing brush is being added, and a new Color Replacement filter lets you select objects and change their color at will.

There’s also a full-screen preview mode for eliminating distractions while editing, and camera-specific presets.

You can see a few of these tools below:

The latest version of ON1 Photo RAW Mobile is live on the iOS App Store and Google Play. You can learn more about that here.

As mentioned above, ON1 Photo RAW 2021 will officially arrive in October, but you can pre-order it today for just $80 and, if you own a previous version of any ON1 Product, you’ll get a standalone copy of ON1 Portrait AI to use right away. Finally, if you prefer a subscription option, you can sign up for ON1 Photo RAW 360 and get access to Portrait AI, Photo RAW Mobile updates, and Photo RAW 2021 for as little as $8 per month.
