Nikon has just updated its Z-mount lens roadmap, which has seen the addition of several new lenses, including 400mm, 600mm and 800mm telephoto prime lenses in the premium ‘S’ line.
While full details on all the new roadmapped lenses are still forthcoming, Nikon has provided a little more information on the 400mm, including its F2.8 aperture, and the fact that it will include a built-in 1.4X teleconverter. The company is also teasing a ‘new coating’ which it claims will provide the highest anti-reflection performance in the company’s history.
Other forthcoming lenses, alongside the long teles already mentioned, are a 26mm prime lens for full-frame, a 24mm prime for DX (APS-C) and a 12-28mm zoom, also for DX. The planned 26mm is curious, alongside existing 24mm and 28mm options, so we’d expect it to offer something unusual – perhaps an ultra-compact ‘pancake’ form factor or a fixed small aperture (a so-called ‘pinhole’ design). There’s a small chance that it could also be a optic specialized in some way for video, 3D or VR imaging.
There’s no word yet on price or availability of any of the planned lenses, but the planned growth of the Z-mount lineup will be encouraging news for Z-mount shooters – with new DX lenses likely to be especially welcomed by Z50 and Zfc owners.
