The NIKKOR Z 28mm F2.8 (SE) is a compact wideangle prime lens for Nikon’s Z-system, styled to recall classic Nikkor designs of the manual focus era and weighing in at only 160g (5.7 oz).
Billed by Nikon as ‘fast, fun and affordable’, the new 28mm is a full-frame FX lens which we’ve placed on high-resolution Nikon Z7 and Z7 II bodies to see how it performs. It also provides a field of view equivalent to 42mm on the new APS-C format Z fc (you’ll find some samples from that combination here).
Optically, the new lens comprises 8 elements in 7 groups, and focus is driven by twin stepping motors. The optically identical standard (non-‘SE’) version of this lens will be available later this year, minus the retro styling. In the meantime, we’ve prepared a gallery of sample images for your perusal.
