Milei Advocates for Crypto Independence: ‘Don’t Let States Take Over’

President Javier Milei advocated for maintaining a separation of crypto and state. The Argentine leader stated that private cryptocurrencies might collaborate to end the state monopoly on currency, and rejected CBDCs.

Milei Supports Maintaining Crypto Outside the State’s Reach

While some leaders envision the inclusion of bitcoin and central bank digital currencies as part of the state’s structure, others reject this notion. Argentine President Javier Milei gave his take regarding a possible takeover of crypto by state nations, denying the possibility of this union.

As part of a keynote at “Meta Day Argentina,” an event organized by the company in Argentina, Milei bashed the public management of cryptocurrency, criticizing the establishment of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) and declaring these should remain in control of private parties.

He stated:

Don’t let the states take over and let the states carry out cryptocurrencies; let them remain in the private sector.

At the same time, Milei highlighted cryptocurrency’s empowering traits, explaining that it surged as a trusted alternative to state currencies and an answer to people despising seigniorage payments. “They have already appropriated the paper money and are scamming us with the biggest scam in the history of humanity, which is the central banks,” he stressed.

Milei emphasized the relevance of cryptocurrency in maintaining economic independence from the state. “Don’t let the state get involved in this, because from then on they will turn us into slaves. Be very careful with this issue,” he concluded.

Milei’s statements are consistent with his libertarian vision of the state, always moving to try to reduce its influence in several areas, advocating for deregulation and privatization of companies considered non-essential for the country.

Recently, Milei stated that his Chainsaw model, as its state reduction policies are called, was ready to be implemented in the U.S. by the Department of Government Efficiency, which will be co-led by Spacex CEO Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy. Milei said that Musk and his De-Regulation and State Transformation Minister Federico Federico Sturzenegger were in contact to replicate the model’s success in the U.S.
